Channapatna By-Election Results 2024: C.P Yogeshwar Outpaces Nikhil Kumaraswamy By 25,413 Votes
Channapatna By Election Result 2024 Live: The counting of votes for Channapatna Assembly by-election is in full swing, as hundreds of enthusiastic workers from Congress and NDA have gathered in front of the Government Engineering College in Channapatna, chanting slogans in support of their respective parties.
The initial trends showed NDA candidate Nikhil Kumaraswamy leading by a slim margin, but by around 10 a.m., after eight 11th rounds of counting, Congress candidate C.P. Yogeshwar won the seat with a lead of about 25,413 votes. This shift in fortunes saw Congress workers erupt in celebration, with chants and cheers filling the air as Yogeshwar managed to overturn an earlier deficit. Each update on the vote counting further energized the crowd, who hailed Deputy Chief Minister D.K. Shivakumar for his leadership in the campaign.

Earlier in the day, Shivakumar had initially scheduled to attend several programs, but the fluctuating results led him to cancel those plans. Despite being confident of C.P. Yogeshwar's prospects, Shivakumar decided to stay at home, focusing on the results as they unfolded. In the past, Shivakumar had stated that the outcome of the election, regardless of whether Congress won or lost, would be a reflection of his leadership.
Shivakumar was supposed to attend an event at the Thaileswara Ganigara Mahasamsthana Mutt near Nelamangala, Bengaluru, at 11 a.m. However, as the counting proceeded, Nikhil Kumaraswamy initially seemed to secure a strong lead, leaving Congress supporters disheartened. By the seventh round of counting, the momentum shifted in favor of C.P. Yogeshwar, and Shivakumar decided to cancel his appearance at the Mutt.
Instructing his personal secretary to cancel all other events scheduled for the day, Shivakumar opted to stay home and closely monitor the counting process. By the eighth round, C.P. Yogeshwar had gained a notable lead of 11,000 votes, providing some relief to Shivakumar and Congress supporters. However, Shivakumar decided to remain at home, refraining from attending any further events until the final results were declared.
As the day progressed, the race between Yogeshwar and Kumaraswamy became more intense, with both parties hoping to secure the crucial Channapatna seat. The final outcome will be closely watched, as it has the potential to impact the political dynamics in Karnataka, especially in the run-up to future elections.
