BMRCL's 250-Meter Skywalk To Ease Silk Board Junction Traffic On Namma Metro Lines

The Bangalore Metro Rail Corporation Limited (BMRCL) has revealed plans for an innovative 250-meter skywalk featuring a travelator at the Junction. This groundbreaking infrastructure will connect the Yellow Line Metro station (RV Road - Bommasandra) to the Blue Line station (KR Puram to Kempegowda International Airport), marking the first travelator installation within Namma Metro and enhancing connectivity between two major lines in the city's metro network.

Once completed, this infrastructure will serve as a crucial transit link, enabling swift movement between two major lines in Bengaluru's growing metro network. The introduction of the travelator is a significant milestone for Namma Metro, representing the first implementation of such a system within the city's metro framework.

Projects Target Silk Board

This initiative is part of BMRCL's ongoing efforts to alleviate the longstanding traffic congestion issues at the Central Silk Board Junction, a notorious bottleneck for commuters.

Three out of the five ramps being constructed at the junction are nearing completion, with plans to ease congestion by the end of May. The recent 50-hour non-stop pouring of concrete for ramp construction, set to conclude on Sunday, marks a significant milestone in this effort. Once operational, these ramps will ease traffic for vehicles traveling from Jayanagar-BTM Layout towards HSR Layout and Electronics City.

The Silk Board junction, located at the intersection of Outer Ring Road and Hosur Road, has long been plagued by heavy traffic flow, leading to prolonged waits at traffic signals. However, the completion of these new ramps promises relief for motorists, according to BMRCL sources.

India's Tallest Sky Deck

Additionally, the civic agency Bruhat Bengaluru Mahanagara Palike (BBMP) has initiated the process by issuing tenders for Detailed Project Reports (DPR) to estimate the construction cost of the ambitious 250-meter-long sky deck. Two potential locations have been identified for the sky deck-NGEF Byappanahalli near the Byappanahalli metro station and the Soap Factory in Yeshwanthpur.
