Bengaluru Traffic Alert: Several Routes Affected Due To Cyclone-Induced Flooding, Alternate Routes Advised
As Cyclone Fengal sweeps across Bengaluru, bringing heavy downpours and disruptions, local authorities urge caution among the city's residents. The Bengaluru City Traffic Police, via their official X social media account, have issued warnings about the severe impact of the rainfall on traffic conditions. They advise commuters to remain vigilant as the continuous rainfall hampers the usual flow of traffic, leading to slow-moving vehicles throughout the city.
The inclement weather has not only caused inconvenience in terms of traffic but has also led to significant waterlogging, especially in the vicinity of Rayasandra towards Anekal. This has exacerbated the traffic slowdown, prompting the traffic police to request the public's cooperation during this challenging period. For those facing emergency situations, the authorities have provided the helpline number 112 for immediate assistance.

There is slow-moving traffic in several areas of Bengaluru due to waterlogging and ongoing construction work. Commuters traveling from Selam Bridge to Rainbow Junction (Karthik Nagara) should expect delays due to waterlogging. Similarly, Jaipuria Junction towards the Sony World signal and Ramamurthy Nagar main road towards Ramamurthy Nagar signal are also affected by waterlogging, causing traffic to move slowly. Motorists traveling from Rayasandra to Anekal should also plan for delays due to waterlogging in that area.
Additionally, traffic movement is slow near Pannaturu Railway Bridge due to ongoing KPTCL cable work. Commuters are urged to co-operate and plan their travel accordingly. Further disruptions are occurring near Sakra Hospital, where BBMP work has restricted vehicle movement from Bellandur Kodi towards Sakra Hospital. Drivers are advised to follow the provided guidelines and adjust their routes.
On the ORR service road, drainage work between Marathahalli and Kaadubeesanahalli is causing slow traffic flow. Similarly, BMRCL work on ORR is further slowing down traffic. Drivers are encouraged to co-operate with the authorities during this time. Lastly, civil work in Doddanekundi Village is also affecting traffic flow, and it is recommended that commuters avoid this route and use alternative paths to their destinations.
The weather bureau reported that on Monday, Bengaluru experienced a temperature of 20.97°C, with predictions ranging from 19.91°C to 23.95°C for the day. The city is grappling with a high relative humidity of 91%, alongside gusty winds reaching speeds of up to 91 km/h. The sun's rise and set times were recorded at 6:26 AM and 5:51 PM respectively, underlining the gloomy weather conditions enveloping the city.
Adding to the weather forecast, the Indian Meteorological Department (IMD) noted the progression of Cyclone Fengal's depression, initially forming over the north coastal areas of Tamil Nadu and Puducherry. It has been moving west-northwest at a pace of 7 km/h. As of 11:30 PM on December 1, 2024, it was situated approximately 40 km northwest of Villupuram and 140 km southwest of Chennai. The cyclone has unleashed torrential rains and flooding, particularly affecting the Cuddalore region in Tamil Nadu.
Adverse Weather Warnings
The IMD has underscored the likelihood of continual adverse weather conditions as the depression moves westward. There's an expectation of heavy rainfall hitting parts of Andhra Pradesh, including the coastal and Rayalaseema regions. In light of the ongoing severe weather, the general public is encouraged to call the emergency helpline 112 in case of any urgent situations. Furthermore, residents are advised to keep abreast of weather updates and exercise caution when travelling.
In response to the cyclone-induced heavy rainfall, the Union Territory of Puducherry has taken the precaution of declaring a holiday for government and private schools, as well as colleges, on Monday, December 2, ensuring the safety of students and staff. As for Bengaluru, the city anticipates temperatures between 19.81°C and 25.59°C on Tuesday, December 3, with humidity levels at 73%. The authorities continue to monitor the situation closely, advising residents to stay informed on weather alerts and avoid unnecessary travel during the heavy rainfall.
Cyclone Fengal, which landed on the coasts of Tamil Nadu and Puducherry on Saturday, November 30, has been responsible for widespread flooding in various locales, particularly in Cuddalore. As the storm progresses westward, it is expected to bring heavy rainfall to parts of Andhra Pradesh, especially in the coastal and Rayalaseema areas.
