Bengaluru Shocker: 37-Year-Old Woman Robbed And Allegedly Assaulted Near KR Market

A 37-year-old woman was reportedly robbed and allegedly sexually assaulted near KR Market late on the night of January 19. The victim, who had left her village in Tamil Nadu following a domestic dispute, was on her way to her brother's residence in Yelahanka when the incident occurred.

According to the victim's complaint, she was waiting for a bus near KR Market around 11:30 PM. Two men in a car approached her under the pretense of assisting her in locating the bus stop. They lured her into their vehicle, promising to help her, but instead drove to Godown Street, where the alleged crime occurred.

According to media reports, the victim managed to file a complaint at the SJ Park police station, detailing the horrifying ordeal. She alleged that the suspects sexually assaulted her and fled with her jewelry and cash.

While initial media reports labeled the incident as a gang rape, senior police officials have refuted these claims. Speaking to Deccan Herald (DH), a senior officer stated that the probe indicates the woman was allegedly soliciting prostitution and engaged in consensual sexual acts with the suspects in exchange for money.

"So far, the investigation has revealed that the woman approached the two men as she needed money," the officer said. "After the act, the men refused to pay her, snatched her mobile phone, and around ₹450 in cash before fleeing."

The accused, identified as Ganesh and Saravana, have been arrested by the police. Investigators are reviewing CCTV footage from the area to further verify the sequence of events.
