Bengaluru RWA's Water Crisis Solution Sparks Online Controversy: Car Washing Banned, Wet Wipes In
Amid unusually hot weather in March, Bangalore finds itself grappling with its worst potable water crisis yet, prompting resident welfare associations (RWAs) in affluent neighbourhoods to take drastic measures to conserve water.
In response to the diminishing water supply and restrictions on water tanker services, strict rationing measures have been implemented, and the RWAs have introduced innovative solutions to alleviate the situation.

Water Rationing and Bans: Bangalore's Response to Crisis
To address the situation sensibly, water rationing has been initiated by RWAs throughout the city, along with the imposition of blanket bans on activities like vehicle washing and swimming pool usage. The objective is to curb water wastage and ensure fair distribution among residents.
Disposable Solution Amid Water Crisis
Prestige Falcon City (PFC) Apartments, situated on Kanakapura Road in south Bengaluru, have put forward the idea of utilizing disposable cutlery and wet wipes as an alternative to conventional water-dependent methods for personal hygiene and dining, according to a report by TOI.
The president of PFC's Resident Welfare Association (RWA) stressed the importance of curbing water consumption in light of the ongoing crisis. "Previously, we relied on private tankers for water supply. However, given the scarcity in tanker services, we are exploring alternative measures," he remarked. In the TOI report, he elaborated, "I have proposed the use of disposable plates, cutlery, and wet wipes, as this will reduce water usage and help us navigate through this challenging situation."
Netizens Reactions
Mixed reactions have been drawn from residents and social media platforms have taken notice of the decision. On platform X, the seriousness of the situation was underscored by a user, who stated, "Disposable plates and cups are being used by residents of Prestige Falcon City. Wet tissues are used for hand and face washing, among other things! This illustrates the severity of the situation at one of the apartments."
Meanwhile, plans have been announced by Karnataka Deputy Chief Minister DK Shivakumar for the state government to assume control of private tankers, borewells, and irrigation wells to streamline water distribution and effectively address the crisis.
