Bengaluru Floods: Yelahanka Hit Hard, Homes Submerged In Kodigehalli, Waterlogging Strands Residents
Bengaluru has been grappling with heavy rainfall that has caused significant waterlogging across several areas, particularly impacting Yelahanka, Nagawara, Hebbal, and Hennur. The incessant downpour on Monday night resulted in knee-deep water on roads, stranding residents and disrupting normal life.
Footage from Allalsandra in Yelahanka depicted residents struggling with the issues caused by waterlogging. One local expressed frustration, stating that no government assistance had been provided and that the area's closed drainage system had exacerbated the situation.

On Monday night, areas in North Bengaluru, including Yelahanka, Vidataranayapura, Jakkur, Kodigehalli, and Horamavu, were hit by heavy rainfall. Kiran Kumar, a Kodigehalli resident, reported that the Doddabommasandra Lake overflowed, resulting in floodwaters reaching as high as six feet and affecting numerous homes in the area. He emphasized that residents in Tata Nagar, Bhadrappa Layout, Kodigehalli, and Hebbal Sarovara Layout are stranded without electricity, water, or food supplies.
"Even the Bruhat Bengaluru Mahanagara Palike (BBMP) control room is unresponsive," he noted, adding that Hebbal Lake is also at its maximum capacity.
Karnataka Minister Krishna Byre Gowda who inspected the flood-affected areas in Tata Nagar, criticised the previous BJP government, stating, "It is a historical problem we have built over the years. The BJP was in power for four years, so I could get into a sort of blame game." His comments come amid public frustration over the city's inadequate infrastructure to handle heavy rains.
Yelahanka was the hardest hit, with areas like Sahakar Nagar also facing severe flooding. Social media was flooded with videos and posts depicting the flooded roads and underpasses, highlighting the urgent need for better urban planning and drainage systems.
One social media user wrote, "Yelahanka Lake is reminding Kendriya Vihar that the apartment is on its land. After last night's torrential rains, today's scene. Time to demolish it and reclaim the lake property. Whoever has built it has to pay compensation to house owners." This comment reflects the growing concern among residents about the impact of encroachments on natural water bodies and the need for responsible development in the city.
Severe flooding in northern Bengaluru, triggered by heavy rainfall, has disrupted flight operations at Kempegowda International Airport in Devanahalli. On Monday night, passengers traveling to and from the airport faced considerable difficulties due to heavy traffic congestion and waterlogged roads.
The railway underpass in Sahakar Nagar, near Mall of Asia, was flooded, resulting in multiple cars being submerged in water.
The Indian Meteorological Department has issued a warning for heavy rainfall in South Interior and coastal Karnataka from October 23 to October 26
