Bangalore: Honey Trap Gang Busted, CCB Arrested Accused For Extorting INR 2.5 Crores

In a shocking turn of events, the Central Crime Branch (CCB) of Bangalore brought to light a sinister scheme involving a brother-sister duo and an accomplice. They successfully extorted a whopping two and a half crores of rupees from a software employee.

The method employed was particularly devious: they ensnared the victim in a honeytrap at a local gym, subsequently threatening him with the release of compromising videos and photographs. This elaborate scam culminated in their arrest, with authorities seizing mobiles and laptops as evidence of their crimes.

Bangalore Honey Trap Gang Busted

The genesis of this elaborate extortion racket can be traced back to a gym named 'Group X Fitness' located in RT Nagar. Azim Uddin, one of the perpetrators, ran the gym while his sister, Tabasam Begum, worked there as a fitness guide. It was here that the victim, a high-ranking software company employee, fell into their trap.

Begum, despite being married with children, concealed her marital status and initiated a relationship with the unsuspecting techie. This relationship was the first step in a meticulously planned extortion scheme.

As the relationship progressed, Begum managed to film private moments between them secretly. She leveraged these recordings to blackmail the techie, demanding money under the threat of making the footage public. The situation escalated when she fabricated a story about adopting a child and coerced the victim into marriage, all the while demanding large sums of money. The victim, under the belief that he was assisting Begum's supposed son's education, complied with her demands.

Adding a layer of intimidation, Begum's accomplice, Abhishek alias Avinash from Udupi district, posed as a policeman and a lawyer. He further threatened the victim, ensuring his compliance. The deception reached a crescendo when the brother, Azim Uddin, demanded the victim marry his sister or face a penalty of six lakh rupees. Over time, the trio systematically extracted two and a half crore rupees from their victim.

Driven to desperation by the relentless demands for money, the victim eventually approached the police, filing a complaint that prompted an investigation by the CCB. The police acted swiftly, locating the accused who had gone into hiding in Udupi district following the complaint. Their arrest was facilitated by technical surveillance, leading to the recovery of crucial evidence against them.

This case underscores the lengths to which fraudsters will go to exploit unsuspecting individuals. It serves as a cautionary tale about the dangers of forming relationships with unknown individuals and the importance of vigilance in all personal interactions. The victim's ordeal finally came to light, bringing the culprits to justice, thanks to the diligent efforts of the Bangalore police.
