26-Year-Old Cab Driver Arrested For Sexually Harassing Pregnant Woman In Bengaluru

A 26-year-old cab driver identified as Avinash from Bengaluru's Kammasandra has been arrested for sexually harassing and assaulting a pregnant woman in public, according to the police statement on August 5. The shocking incident occurred on July 29 in the Electronics City police station area.

At around 7:30 pm that day, the 32-year-old nurse was walking towards a bus stop from her health center when the accused approached her in an SUV and offered to drive her home. However, the victim declined the offer and continued walking, ignoring him. Undeterred, the accused got out of the vehicle and persisted in following her. He then made disturbing advances, offering her Rs 1 lakh for every hour she spent with him.

The woman firmly rejected his advances and shouted at him, even slapping him to protect herself. In response, the accused unleashed a violent attack, repeatedly punching her on the face and ear.

As the woman began to bleed from her injuries, the accused fled the scene. She promptly called one of her colleagues and sought help at the Electronics City police station. After recording her statement, the police reviewed CCTV footage, leading to the swift arrest of the perpetrator. Avinash has been sent to judicial custody pending further legal proceedings.
