10-Year-Old Girl Raped, Brutally Murdered In Mysuru, Accused Injured in Encounter While Trying to Flee

A 10-year-old girl was found dead near Dodda Kere Maidan, close to Mysuru Palace. The post-mortem revealed that the girl was brutally murdered after being raped.

The victim's family, along with about 50 others from the Hakki Pikki community, had traveled from Kalaburagi to Mysuru during Dussehra for balloon trading. They were camping near the Palace grounds and selling their goods at popular spots such as Chamundi Hill, the Exhibition Grounds, Bannimantap, and Devaraja Market.

On last Wednesday night, the families returned to their tents around midnight after finishing work. Around 2 a.m., while the victim was sleeping, the accused carried her away and murdered her by stabbing 18 times. The crime took place in an empty brick structure in front of the Mysuru Palace.

Around 4 am, the girl's relatives woke up due to the rain and realised she was missing. They immediately filed a missing person report at Nazarbad Police Station. A search led to the grim discovery of the child's partially clothed body in a pit near their temporary shelters at approximately 6:30 a.m.

Taking the matter seriously, Mysuru police arrested the accused in Kollegal within hours of the incident. While being brought to Mysuru, he attempted to escape. During this, police shot him in the leg, and he was treated at KR Hospital in Mysuru.
