Gemini's Scheduled Actions Feature Enhances User Interaction With AI Chatbot
Google's I/O 2025 event unveiled several new features for Gemini, with Scheduled Actions being a standout. This feature allows users to set prompts for future execution or regular repetition. Although it might seem minor, Scheduled Actions significantly enhances interaction with the AI chatbot. Users can instruct Gemini to perform tasks later, and it will remember and execute them accordingly. Even past conversations can be transformed into scheduled tasks.
Scheduled Actions have some limitations. Access requires a Google AI Pro or Google AI Ultra subscription, currently available only in the US. Users can schedule up to 10 tasks at once, including both one-time and recurring actions. Additionally, location-based actions remain fixed to the original location where they were created.

Using Scheduled Actions in Gemini
To view scheduled actions, users can tap their profile in the Gemini app, navigate to Settings, and select 'Scheduled Actions'. From there, tasks can be paused or deleted as needed. However, it's important to note that while scheduling generally works well, Gemini may occasionally skip a task; a follow-up message usually resolves this issue.
Gemini's scheduling feature also extends to email management. Users can request daily summaries of unread emails by instructing Gemini to provide updates every morning. Customisation options include highlighting emails from specific senders or excluding spam and newsletters.
Creating Weekly Plans with Calendar Events
With Workspace integration, Gemini can compile weekly calendar events. It leverages Google Maps for additional queries like travel distances for appointments. Users can request specific details or formats; for instance, if appointments are in different areas, Gemini calculates total travel time.
Scheduled questions cater to future events where information isn't yet available. For example, users curious about Oscar winners can schedule Gemini to deliver results post-event. This feature is particularly beneficial for complex searches or specific inquiries like video game reviews.
The Future of Agent Mode
Though not yet available, Agent Mode promises exciting possibilities for Scheduled Actions. In demonstrations, Gemini was tasked with finding new apartments weekly and summarising findings for users. While this level of autonomy is beyond current capabilities, it highlights potential future uses.
Currently, Gemini handles simple web searches and assists with email and calendar management alongside detailed planning tasks. As AI tools like Gemini evolve, they continue to offer innovative ways to streamline daily activities.
