Facebook, Instagram, and YouTube Introduce Tools to Identify AI Content
YouTube and Meta have launched tools for tagging AI-generated content, aligning with India's new regulations requiring transparency from social media users. These changes reflect a growing emphasis on responsible AI usage.
Google's YouTube and Meta's Facebook and Instagram have introduced tools enabling users to tag content as AI-generated or modified. This move aligns with the draft amendments proposed by the Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology (MeitY) to the Information Technology (Intermediary Guidelines and Digital Media Ethics Code) Rules, 2021. These amendments aim to tackle the issue of AI-based deepfakes by requiring users to declare AI-generated content and urging platforms to verify such content, The Times of India reported.
The Ministry's draft amendments emphasize the need for all social media users to label AI-generated or altered posts. Social media giants are expected to implement technology to detect and verify such content. These rules are directed at the leading social media intermediaries (SSMIs), specifically those with 5 million or more registered users in India. In response, YouTube, Facebook, and Instagram have already launched features in India to comply with this directive, according to platform reviews.

Social Media Platforms Adapt to New AI Content Regulations
On YouTube, creators must disclose content that is meaningfully altered or synthetically generated in certain cases, as per the platform's instructions to its users. Meanwhile, Meta has issued guidelines for Facebook and Instagram users, requiring them to label any digitally generated or altered photorealistic audio and visuals. These measures reflect the platforms' commitment to adhering to the government's directive.
In a separate development, robotics and artificial intelligence have made their way into the ICSE curriculum, marking a shift from traditional teaching methods to more advanced technological subjects. Several ICSE schools have introduced these subjects for the board, and many others have integrated them into their curriculum up to Class VIII, with plans to eventually offer them in board classes.
Robotics and AI Gain Popularity in ICSE Curriculum
Interest in robotics and AI among students is rising, especially in schools offering these subjects in Classes IX and X. The number of students choosing these subjects has been increasing steadily. As Banerjee noted, “When we first wanted to offer it in Class IX, we got only two students, but gradually from next year the numbers have gone up. We understand that we will not be getting a large number from the first year, but if we don't start, how would children know or make a choice?”
This growing interest in AI and robotics reflects a broader trend of incorporating modern technologies into education. By integrating these subjects into the curriculum, schools aim to prepare students for a future where technology plays a pivotal role. As more students opt for these subjects, it is expected that the demand for such courses will continue to grow, shaping the future of education, according to a report in Telegraph India.
These changes in both social media and educational platforms indicate a significant shift towards embracing technology. As AI becomes more prevalent, regulations and educational initiatives are evolving to address the challenges and opportunities it presents. This adaptation is crucial in ensuring that both users and students are equipped to navigate the technological landscape effectively.
