Manipal rape: Accused to undergo DNA test
Manipal (Karnataka), July 2: In a recent turn of events in the Manipal gang-rape case, the police has been given approval of DNA tests to be conducted on the two youths who had allegedly sexually assaulted a Manipal University medical student.
The DNA test is ordered on the two, even as the prime accused among them, Yogish, is still in ICU in Kasturba medical College. He had tried to commit suicide on the same day of the incident by consuming poison and is in a critical state now. Hence, he could not be produced in court.

However, the third accused, Anand Pana, was remanded in police custody by the district sessions court judge-Nagajyothi till July 5. Investigating officer- Sadanand Thippanavar-had requested a custody of 10 days, but that was reduced to five days.
The second accused, Hariprasad was brought before the judge and Thippanavar requested permission for DNA test on both of them. The court agreed immediately, as per senior public prosecutor Raju Poojary.
Semen samples have already been collected from the victim, apart from other evidences. If the DNA profile matches, then circumstantial evidences would be secondary, believes the police.
