Calling Obama's Democratic critics 'crazy' forces spokesman Gibbs to apologise
Washington, Aug.12 (ANI): White House Press Secretary Robert Gibbs was forced to apologise after losing his temper and calling US President Barack Obama's critics "crazy" and saying they needed to be "drug tested".
Gibbs made the comments after Democratic Party left-wingers compared Obama to former US President George W Bush, The Telegraph reports.
Gibbs was quickly forced to apologise after conceding he was watching too much 24-hour cable television news that "gets frustrating" and had apparently clouded his judgement.
In an interview with "The Hill", a political newspaper, Gibbs attacked what he described as the "political left" who have criticised Mr. Obama for failing to push through radical reforms. I hear these people saying he's like George Bush. Those people ought to be drug tested. I mean, it's crazy."
He later said that he had spoken "inartfully".
"I watch too much cable, I admit. Day after day, it gets frustrating," he said.
There is growing concern over Gibbs' conduct among Democrats. There is now expected to be growing pressure for Gibbs to be replaced in the autumn during what will effectively be a relaunch by the White House to regain some political momentum. (ANI)
