Congress reiterates faith in Chidambaram, BJP not to press for resignation
New Delhi, Apr 9 (ANI): The Congress Party on Friday reiterated its faith and confidence in Union Home Minister P Chidambaram on Friday, while the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) said it would not press for his resignation.
Addressing the media here, Congress spokesperson Abhishek Manu Singhvi described Chidambaram's offer to resign as a commendable step.
"It is commendable that the Home Minister has accepted his responsibility," Singhvi said.
He also said the party reiterates its faith in Chidamabaram.
"The Congress Party reiterates its faith in the Home Minister at this time," Singhvi added.
Earlier in the day, it was reported that Chidambaram had offered to step down after the Chhattisgarh massacre in which 76 CRPF personnel were killed.
On the other side, opposition BJP said it would not press for Chidambaram's resignation but said he should not turn his back on the crisis.
"We are not demanding Chidambaram's resignation, his resignation would be a victory to the Maoists," Rajiv Pratap Rudy said.
"The Home Minister's responsibility is to secure the nation, and he should not turn his back on the crisis," he added.
Rudy urged the Centre to develop better co-ordination with state governments.
"Government should have coordination with states while carrying out anti- Naxal operations," he said.
"Our party will support all steps that the Government takes to curb the menace," Rudy added.
Ruday said whenever the country is in crisis, the BJP always took a stand beyond politics.
"If the country is under threat, we (BJP) will think beyond politics," Rudy said.
Rudy further said Chidambaram has become a "victim of his own idiom."
Asking Chidambaram "not to make confessional statements", Rudy said: "He should make aspirational statements to boost the morale of the security forces. (ANI)
