Ex-White House Chief of Staff seriously considering running for Kennedy's vacant seat
Washington, Sep 10(ANI): Former White House Chief of Staff Andrew Card is said to be "seriously considering" running for the vacant Massachusetts Senate seat of late Edward Kennedy.
A former Republican National Committee member Ron Kaufman, who is a friend and adviser to Card, told a news agency that Card is being pushed by Republicans to look at the race and is weighing a candidacy, Fox News reports.
It is also believed that Card plans to speak to state GOP officials at a meeting in Newton, Massachusetts, to gauge the kind of support that he would get before deciding to jump into the race.
The nominating primaries on December 8 and the election will be held on January 19.
Card has served in the state legislature from 1975 to 1983. While he keeps close ties to his native state, Card now resides in suburban Washington.
Prior to serving as President George Bush's Chief of Staff, Card was an automobile lobbyist and Secretary of Transportation under the first President Bush.
Card could have an uphill battle against Democratic candidates, including state Attorney General Martha Coakley. (ANI)
