Sonia, Manmohan to meet Prez at 5 pm
New Delhi, May 20: Congress president Sonia Gandhi and Manmohan Singh will meet Indian President Pratibha Patil at 5 pm to stake claim to form the new government.
National Conference leader Farooq Abdullah, Trinamool Congress chief Mamata Banerjee, DMK chief M Karunanidhi, NCP president Sharad Pawar and leader Praful Patel were present, along with senior Congress leaders, including Pranab Mukherjee, P Chidambaram and AK Antony besides Manmohan Singh, Sonia Gandhi and Rahul Gandhi.
Sonia Gandhi was reelected as the UPA Chairperson in the meeting. karunanidhi proposed her name which was backed by Mamata. Congress sources said that the new government might be sworn in on May 22. The previous day, May 21, being the death anniversary of Rajiv Gandhi, the party leadership is keen to delay the launch of the new government by a day.
