Divisive forces trying to divide society, says Sonia Gandhi
Ranchi, Apr 21 (ANI): Congress President Sonia Gandhi on Tuesday said that country is facing a threat from divisive forces who were out to divide society on the basis of region and religion.
"The country was not only facing threat from terrorists, but also from divisive forces who were out to divide society on the basis of region and religion," Sonia Gandhi said at an election rally here.
Gandhi further said those trying to divide the people were enemies of the country.
"In the face of empty promises being made by some forces, it is for you to decide who should be entrusted with the development and progress of the country," she added.
The United Progressive Alliance (UPA) chairperson also recalled different programmes initiated by her government.
"The UPA government, during its five year rule, without discrimination, provided funds to all States for different programmes. It had implemented several programmes, including National Rural Employment Guarantee Act (NREGA) and also waived the loan of farmers," she added.
In a reference to the Maoist menace, Gandhi asked the youth to choose the right path to solve this problem.
"Nobody benefits by violence. When a family loses its breadwinner, it is the women and children who suffer the most. We have initiated many developmental programmes which can bring them back on the right path," she added. (ANI)
