Inquiry in lawyers-police clash at Madras HC continues
Chennai, Mar 1(ANI): Justice B.N. Srikrishna, named by the Supreme Court to probe the February 19 lawyers-police clash at the Madras High Court, continued his inquiry for the second day on Sunday.
Earlier, the President of the Madras High Court Advocates Association, R.C. Paul Kanakaraj said that the request of Justice Srikrishna to resume work would be placed before the General Body of the Association tomorrow.
He said the lawyers were prepared to work on Saturdays and Sundays to compensate the days lost due to the protest.
Additional Solicitor General Ravindran, acting Chief Justice of Madras High Court S.J.Mukhopadhyay and Senior Advocate Gandhi met Justice Srikrishna this morning.
Meanwhile, Tamil Nadu's Joint Action Committee of Advocates has appealed to Chief Minister M. Karunanidhi again to consider the lawyers' demand for action against erring police officials.
Earlier, the apex court had asked the Tamil Nadu Government to justify the entry of police into the high court on February 19.
Clashes broke out between police and lawyers when police tried to arrest two lawyers who had allegedly thrown rotten eggs on Janata Party President, Subramanian Swamy on February 17.
The lawyers also manhandled Swami, who enjoys Z-category security. (ANI)
