Houston's Indian Dr named Medical Dir of the Year

New York, Jul 18: An Indian-American has been named Medical Director of the Year by Team Health, America's largest provider of hospital-based clinical outsourcing services to hospitals and physician groups.

Dr Harparminder Chadha, medical director of emergency services at Houston's Memorial Hermann Northwest Hospital, was honoured for his outstanding leadership and commitment to creating the best clinical outcome with exceptional patient care experience. ''I am greatly honoured to have received this prestigious award, but it was only made possible through the collaboration, hard work and dedication of the whole emergency department team,'' Dr Chadha said, according to information available with the hospital.

Dr Chadha received the award recently at the Team Health West Leadership Conference in Las Vegas, Nevada. Team Health West is a chapter of Team Health.

He will also be recognised in Chicago in three months at the American College of Emergency Physicians Scientific Assembly.

Members of the Chadha family live in Hedwig Village, near Houston in Texas.

The hospital's chief executive officer praised the Indian-American physician.

''Dr Chadha is a tremendous asset to the emergency department here at Memorial Hermann Northwest,'' Dr Dough Ardoin, the CEO, said, according to Houston community newspaper Memorial Examiner. ''He embodies the qualities one looks for in a competent medical director leadership, compassion and dedication to name a few and this award is a testament to the difference he is making in the lives of patients, colleagues and staff at the hospital.'' Dr Chadha graduated in 1973 from Rajendra Medical College and Hospital, Ranchi. He did his FRCS from London in 1984. He is a physician certified by the American Board of Emergency Medicine.

He joined Northwest Hospital in 2004 as medical director of the emergency department.
