Apple is introducing the MacBook Neo in India as its most budget-friendly laptop, with a starting price of Rs 69,900. The 13-inch machine uses the A18 Pro chip from the iPhone 16 Pro, supports Apple Intelligence features, and is already available for pre-order before sales start on March 11.

Out of the box, MacBook Neo runs macOS Tahoe and supports the new Apple Intelligence suite. Users get tools such as Writing Tools and Live Translation straight away, while iPhone Mirroring lets iPhone owners control apps and notifications from the laptop screen without picking up the phone.

Apple positions the MacBook Neo as its most affordable MacBook to date in India, with prices from Rs 69,900. The laptop features a 13-inch Liquid Retina display rated at 500 nits brightness, showing up to 1 billion colours, and comes in four finishes: blush, indigo, silver and a fresh citrus shade.

The main hardware is built around the A18 Pro chip, the same processor used in the iPhone 16 Pro line. A 5-core GPU handles graphics, while a 16-core Neural Engine manages on-device AI tasks. Apple states that this setup offers strong performance for everyday work and the growing list of AI-driven tools on macOS Tahoe.

Apple claims MacBook Neo delivers up to 50% faster performance in everyday tasks than a comparable Intel Core Ultra 5 Windows laptop. For on-device AI workloads, Apple says it can be up to three times faster, thanks to the A18 Pro chip and the dedicated 16-core Neural Engine.

The Neural Engine processes Apple Intelligence features locally, which Apple says helps keep personal data on the device. The 5-core GPU aims to provide enough power for casual games and basic creative work like photo editing, while the fanless design allows the laptop to stay silent even under load.

Apple rates the MacBook Neo for up to 16 hours of use on a single charge, depending on workload. At 1.23 kgs, the laptop is relatively light for a 13-inch model. The aluminium chassis is designed to feel solid despite the lower price, and the fanless layout helps keep the body simple and slim.

Along the sides, MacBook Neo includes two USB-C ports, Wi‑Fi 6E, Bluetooth 6 and a 3.5mm headphone jack. A 1080p FaceTime camera sits above the display, while dual side-firing speakers with Spatial Audio support provide sound. These features target students, remote workers and users who want an entry-level MacBook without extra accessories.

Apple highlights the MacBook Neo as its lowest-carbon Mac so far. According to Apple, the laptop uses 60% recycled content overall, including 90% recycled aluminium in the enclosure. This focus on materials aligns with Apple’s broader environmental goals, while also giving the lower-cost model a strong sustainability angle.
