Nadine de Klerk Discusses RCB's Exciting Win Against Mumbai Indians in WPL Opener

RCB all-rounder Nadine de Klerk reflects on her match-winning performance against Mumbai Indians in the Women's Premier League, noting it will take time for the win to sink in. Her impressive bowling and batting under pressure were key to the team's success.

RCB all-rounder Nadine de Klerk expressed on Friday that it might take a few days for the excitement of their three-wicket win against Mumbai Indians in the Women's Premier League opener to fully register. She credited her success to relying on her strengths, which played a crucial role in the thrilling match. The South African player delivered impressive bowling figures of 4/26, limiting Mumbai Indians to 154/6.

De Klerk's performance with the bat was equally commendable as she scored an unbeaten 63 off 44 balls under pressure, securing the player-of-the-match award with a last-ball victory. "It is probably going to take a couple of days. If it is your day, you have to ensure you cash in. Glad to get the win," said de Klerk when asked about her feelings post-match.

RCB's Thrilling Victory

While discussing her bowling strategy, de Klerk mentioned sticking to basics and backing her skills helped her succeed. "Just about coming in and backing your skills, and executing. Just sticking to my strengths... sometimes it goes your way, sometimes it does not," she explained. She emphasised the importance of capitalising on opportunities on batting-friendly wickets.

During her batting innings, de Klerk aimed to maximise strike for greater impact. "Towards the back end, I was thinking of taking a bulk of the strike," she noted. She highlighted key partnerships, including Arundhati Reddy's 20 runs and Prema Rawat's crucial boundaries while remaining unbeaten on 8.

Skippers Reflect on the Match

RCB captain Smriti Mandhana praised her team's resilience and de Klerk's outstanding performance. "It was a thriller. RCB are known for thrillers, and brilliant from Nadine to win us this game," said Mandhana. She acknowledged the positive attitude within the team even during challenging moments.

On the other hand, MI skipper Harmanpreet Kaur admitted their bowlers fell short during the match. "We just did not bowl one good ball. This happens," she remarked. Kaur acknowledged they missed opportunities against de Klerk and noted that strong-minded batters can capitalise on such chances.

Kaur also reflected on the nature of WPL matches, stating, "In WPL, we always get matches like that." She emphasised the need for improvement in future games by considering better strategies for upcoming matches.
