Netizens Flood Funny Memes, Mock Indian Team Over Humiliating Defeat Against South Africa

South Africa, the reigning World Test Champions, inflicted a humiliating 408-run defeat to India in Guwahati on Wednesday. Thus registering their first Test series victory on Indian soil in 25 years and handing the hosts their second consecutive home series whitewash in as many years.

As India suffered a humiliating defeat, the angry fans mocked the Indian team for their poor performance through memes. They vented out their frustration through funny reactions on X.

Temba Bavuma's Proteas set India a colossal target of 549 runs late on Day 4. The final chapter of India's miserable series lasted little more than a single session on Day 5, as the home side capitulated for just 140 runs.

The 408-run margin marks India's largest-ever loss in Test cricket by runs. The 0-2 sweep is only the third time a touring side has whitewashed India in a Test series and the first time in four decades that India has lost successive home series.

Harmer Hauls Proteas to Victory

Off-spinner Simon Harmer emerged as South Africa's destroyer-in-chief, claiming 6 wickets in the final innings to add to his phenomenal tour tally. The senior campaigner ended the series with 17 wickets at an average of just 8, following up his 10-wicket haul in Kolkata with seven more in Guwahati.

For South Africa, the victory is a powerful statement following their World Test Championship win and a hard-fought draw in Pakistan. Captain Bavuma has cemented his legacy, becoming only the second South African captain, after Hansie Cronje in 2000, to achieve a series sweep in India.

Bavuma also set a new record for most successive Tests without a defeat as captain (11 in 12), surpassing Ben Stokes's previous mark.

India's batting order experienced a freefall throughout the series, failing to cross the 220-run mark even once. Outside of a lone fifty from Ravindra Jadeja, none of the senior batters, including stand-in skipper Rishabh Pant and KL Rahul, showed the fight required.

The team undoubtedly missed regular captain Shubman Gill, who was sidelined with a neck injury. However, the performance has placed intense scrutiny on Head Coach Gautam Gambhir.

Gambhir now holds the unwanted distinction of being the first Indian coach to oversee two home Test series whitewashes, following a 0-3 stunner by New Zealand last year. While Gambhir secured a 2-2 draw in England earlier this year, this latest defeat to South Africa could spell serious trouble for his tenure.
