India Squad for South Africa Test Series Announced, Rishabh Pant Returns as Vice-Captain

The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) on Wednesday unveiled a 15-member squad for the upcoming two-match Test series against South Africa, starting November 14.

The announcement marks the much-anticipated comeback of wicketkeeper-batter Rishabh Pant, who has also been appointed as India's vice-captain for the series.

Bengal pacer Akash Deep has earned a recall, replacing Prasidh Krishna, while Tamil Nadu wicketkeeper N Jagadeesan has been left out following Pant's return to full fitness. The first Test will take place at the Eden Gardens in Kolkata from November 14, followed by the second Test in Guwahati from November 22 to 26.

BCCI Confirms Selection for South Africa Test Series

"The Men's Senior Selection Committee has picked India's squad for the upcoming two-match IDFC First Bank Test series against South Africa," the BCCI said in an official release.

The return of Pant has been one of the most talked-about developments ahead of the series, given his recent recovery from a foot fracture sustained during the fourth Test against England in Manchester earlier this year. His selection signals full medical clearance and confidence from the selectors in his fitness and form.

Pant's Strong Comeback Performance with India A

Pant made his return to competitive cricket last week by captaining India A to an emphatic win over South Africa A in Bengaluru. Displaying both leadership and batting brilliance, Pant scored a crucial 90 in the second innings, guiding his team to a thrilling chase of 275 runs.

His match-winning knock reaffirmed his readiness for the longest format, ensuring his return to the national side in a leadership capacity.

Akash Deep Rejoins the Squad

Bengal pacer Akash Deep, who continues to impress with his consistent performances in domestic cricket, has also been recalled to the Test setup. He remains part of the India A squad facing South Africa A in the ongoing four-day series in Bengaluru.

With Akash's inclusion, India's pace attack looks well-balanced, combining the experience of Jasprit Bumrah and Mohammed Siraj with the emerging talent of the Bengal quick.

Strong Spin and Batting Line-up

India's spin department will once again rely on the experience of Ravindra Jadeja, Axar Patel, and Kuldeep Yadav, with Washington Sundar adding depth as an all-round option. On the batting front, skipper Shubman Gill will lead a youthful yet solid lineup featuring Yashasvi Jaiswal, KL Rahul, Sai Sudharsan, and Devdutt Padikkal.
