One Year of BJP Rule in Delhi: Rekha Gupta Flags Off 500 Electric Buses, Unveils Projects

Delhi Chief Minister Rekha Gupta on February 8, 2026, formally launched 500 new electric buses for public use, marking the start of a month-long public outreach and development campaign to commemorate one year of BJP rule in the national capital. The launch, held at Ramlila Maidan, is being projected by the Delhi government as a major step towards strengthening clean, affordable and sustainable public transport in the city.

The outreach drive coincides with the first anniversary of the 2025 Delhi Assembly election results, announced on February 8 last year, in which the BJP won 48 seats and returned to power in the Capital. Rekha Gupta recalled that the Council of Ministers, including the Chief Minister, took oath on February 20, 2025, formally beginning the BJP-led administration. She said the anniversary period would be used to take the government's work directly to the people and present a detailed account of its performance over the past year.

Addressing reporters, Rekha Gupta said the campaign will run from February 8 to March 2, with a packed schedule of project inaugurations, scheme launches and public interactions. "February 8 is the day when the people of Delhi gave us their blessings and made 48 BJP legislators victorious, leading to the formation of our government. From today till March 2, we are holding a grand outreach campaign to connect with citizens and present our report card," she said.

A key highlight of the campaign is the rollout of 500 electric buses, which the Chief Minister said will significantly boost Delhi's public transport capacity while also helping reduce pollution. She described the bus launch as a concrete example of the government's focus on environment-friendly mobility and improved daily services for commuters. Officials said the buses will be deployed on multiple routes across the city in phases, strengthening last-mile connectivity and easing pressure on existing transport systems.

Alongside the transport push, Rekha Gupta also unveiled development projects worth around ₹400 crore at an event in the Matiala Assembly constituency. These projects cover local infrastructure upgrades, civic amenities and public facilities, and are part of a broader effort to highlight work completed or initiated during the first year of the BJP government.

The Chief Minister said that until February 20, new schemes and development initiatives will be announced or dedicated to the public on a daily basis. On February 21, the government will formally present its performance report, outlining achievements, policy decisions and ongoing projects. From February 22 onwards, ministers and legislators will fan out across neighbourhoods and constituencies to share the report card with residents and gather feedback.

Rekha Gupta said the combination of electric bus launches, infrastructure projects and direct public engagement reflects the government's intent to show visible outcomes of its policies. She added that the outreach campaign is also aimed at reinforcing public trust and demonstrating that, with continued support from voters, the BJP government is working to put Delhi on a steady development path focused on modern infrastructure, better services and cleaner mobility.
