Delhi airport, the busiest in India, has three terminals. Terminals 2 and 3 are close together, while Terminal 1 is located a few kilometres away.

Golden Line Extension

In an interview with PTI, DIAL CEO Videh Kumar Jaipuriar shared plans for a new integrated station connecting Aerocity and T1. "The Golden Line was earlier supposed to come up to the Aerocity. We have convinced the DMRC (Delhi Metro Rail Corporation) to extend it up to T1," he said.

The Golden Line or Tughlakabad-Aerocity corridor is currently under construction as part of Phase-IV. This extension aims to enhance connectivity by linking T1 with Aerocity and further integrating with existing lines.

Integrated Station Plans

Jaipuriar mentioned plans for an integrated station at Aerocity due to its strategic location. "RRTS (Regional Railway Transport Service) is coming to the Aerocity, and even one of the APM (Automated People Mover) stations is supposed to be located there as per the current layout," he explained.

DIAL intends to introduce an 'air train' for seamless travel between all terminals. This system will be an elevated cum at-grade Automated People Mover (APM) System based on a design, build, finance, operate, and transfer model.

Airport Operations

Delhi International Airport Ltd (DIAL), led by GMR Group, operates Indira Gandhi International Airport (IGIA). The airport features three terminals and four runways, accommodating over 100 million passengers annually.
