Golden Line Boost: DMRC Starts Civil Work On Lajpat Nagar–Saket G Block Metro Corridor

The Delhi Metro Rail Corporation (DMRC) has officially started civil construction on the Lajpat Nagar-Saket G Block section of Phase IV, marking the first major work to begin outside the designated priority corridors. This stretch, part of the Golden Line (Line 11), is an elevated corridor featuring eight stations aimed at significantly boosting connectivity across South Delhi.

On Friday, DMRC initiated the first test pile and conducted a ground-breaking ceremony at Pushpa Bhawan near Saket. The event was attended by DMRC Managing Director Vikas Kumar, senior officials of the corporation, representatives from Rail Vikas Nigam Limited (RVNL), and the contractor responsible for this segment.

According to DMRC, the eight stations planned along the corridor are Lajpat Nagar, Andrews Ganj, GK-1, Chirag Delhi, Pushpa Bhawan, Saket District Centre, Pushp Vihar and Saket G Block. The new line is expected to operate as a crucial connector within South Delhi, improving mobility and facilitating smoother integration with the wider metro network. The initiation of test pile work signals the start of full-scale civil construction on this route.

Once operational, the corridor is projected to ease travel for thousands of daily commuters across prominent residential and commercial localities including Greater Kailash-1, Saket and Pushp Vihar. Numerous schools, offices and government institutions located along the stretch are also likely to gain from improved metro access. The route will provide seamless interchange with the Magenta Line at Chirag Delhi and with both the Violet and Pink Lines at Lajpat Nagar. As a result, Lajpat Nagar is set to develop into a major interchange hub in South Delhi, becoming a triple-line station with expanded connectivity options.

DMRC further stated that progress on the other two Phase IV corridors - Inderlok-Indraprastha and Rithala-Narela - is currently underway through tendering processes and other pre-construction steps.

Since its inception, the Delhi Metro has played a transformative role in enhancing mobility across the national capital, backed by its emphasis on safety, reliability and modern infrastructure, the corporation added.
