Delhi on High Alert After Intel Warns of Lashkar-e-Taiba Threat

New Delhi has been placed on heightened alert after intelligence agencies issued warnings of a possible terror strike near the historic Red Fort, ANI reported.

Pakistan-based terror outfit Lashkar-e-Taiba (LeT) is suspected to be plotting an attack targeting religious sites, with a temple in the Chandni Chowk area identified as a potential target, the news agency reported citing sources.

Inputs received by security agencies suggest that LeT may attempt an improvised explosive device (IED) attack in the capital. The group is believed to be seeking revenge for the February 6 blast at a mosque in Islamabad, Pakistan, and could be planning a major strike in India. Intelligence officials have cautioned that prominent temples across the country remain on the radar of the outfit, raising concerns about the safety of key religious places.

The alert comes in the shadow of the deadly explosion near Red Fort on November 10, 2025, which killed 12 people. That incident involved a car packed with explosives detonating near Gate No. 1 of the Red Fort Metro Station, sparking fires in several nearby vehicles. The memory of that attack continues to loom large, making the latest intelligence inputs particularly alarming for residents and authorities in Delhi.

Investigations into the November 2025 blast are still underway. On February 13 this year, a Special NIA court at Patiala House extended the probe period by 45 days, following a request from the National Investigation Agency (NIA) which had sought a 90-day extension.

The court also extended the judicial custody of seven accused until March 13, underscoring the complexity of the case and the continuing efforts to unravel the network behind the attack.
In response to the latest alert, Delhi Police and paramilitary forces have intensified security measures around Red Fort, Chandni Chowk, and other sensitive areas. Surveillance has been stepped up, with additional checkpoints and patrols deployed to monitor movement in high-footfall zones. Religious institutions have been advised to remain vigilant and cooperate closely with law enforcement agencies.

The intelligence warning highlights the persistent threat posed by cross-border terror outfits that seek to destabilize India by targeting places of worship and heritage sites.
