Delhi CM Rekha Gupta Flags Off 300 New EV Buses, DTC Fleet Crosses 2,000 Electric Buses

Delhi is accelerating its shift to electric public transport, expanding the EV bus fleet, launching an interstate service, and restarting the EV subsidy portal to promote cleaner air, lower travel costs, and improved city connectivity.

Delhi’s public transport network is moving towards a major shift, with electric vehicles becoming central. Over the last year, more than 2000 electric buses have joined the Delhi Transport Corporation (DTC) fleet. The government plans to convert the entire bus network to EVs so that city bus travel becomes fully emission-free.

Adding to this push, Chief Minister Rekha Gupta flagged off 300 new electric buses from the Indraprastha bus depot. These buses are now dedicated to passengers across the capital. Officials see this as part of a wider effort to control air pollution and build a more modern, reliable transport system for Delhi.

Delhi EV Bus expansion, interstate network and infrastructure

On the same occasion, a new interstate Delhi EV Bus service between Nanaksar and Ghaziabad also started. This route aims to give Delhi-NCR commuters smoother links and reduce travel time. Alongside this, the foundation stone was laid for a new DTC office building, planned with upgraded facilities to support smarter management of the transport network.

The growing Delhi EV Bus numbers hint at a future where the capital’s transport structure could look very different. A larger electric fleet means quieter roads, fewer emissions and more organised services. Authorities also expect that operating costs will fall over time, which can help keep fares affordable for regular passengers.

Delhi EV Bus policy, EV subsidy update and government vision

Policy support is matching the Delhi EV Bus rollout on the ground. The government has restarted the EV subsidy portal, which had been inactive since 2023. Through this platform, 12,877 approved buyers have already received nearly Rs 24 crore as subsidy, directly paid into their bank accounts through DBT.

The EV subsidy linked with the Delhi EV Bus programme is expected to encourage more people to choose electric vehicles. Private buyers gain financial relief, while the city benefits from cleaner air. Officials say this combination of direct support and public transport upgrades makes the move towards electric mobility more practical for residents.

Explaining the wider vision behind the Delhi EV Bus initiative, Chief Minister Rekha Gupta said the plan is to give the capital a new pace and direction. The focus is on making daily travel cheaper, faster and better for the environment. Cabinet Minister Dr. Pankaj Kumar Singh, MLA Tarvinder Singh Marwah and several other leaders attended the launch event.

With continuing additions to the Delhi EV Bus fleet and active subsidy support, the government expects both pollution levels and commuting stress to reduce. The strategy links cleaner air, lower travel costs and improved connectivity, suggesting that daily journeys across Delhi and the wider NCR could gradually become more convenient and budget friendly.
