CM Rekha Gupta Approves Najafgarh Drain Corridor: 61 km Road to Link Villages with Delhi, ₹453.95 Crore Outlay

The Najafgarh Drain Corridor Project in Delhi plans a 60.77 km continuous mobility network with roads on both sides of the drain, pedestrian and cycling tracks, and a new bridge, aiming to ease traffic, cut travel time, and reduce emissions across western and south‑western Delhi.

Delhi is set to get a new traffic corridor along the Najafgarh drain, after Chief Minister Rekha Gupta cleared a key proposal. A finance expenditure committee, chaired by Rekha Gupta, approved the construction of twin two-lane roads on both sides of the drain.

The sanctioned Najafgarh Drain Corridor Project is estimated to cost about Rs 453.95 crore. The Delhi government expects the corridor to ease pressure on main roads, reduce travel time, cut fuel use and lower emissions across the capital’s busy western and south-western belts.

Najafgarh Drain Corridor Project and Delhi Connectivity Plan

Rekha Gupta stated that “This is not just a road, but it could prove to be a major transformation in the capital’s transport infrastructure.” Officials describe the plan as a continuous mobility network along the drain, designed to support both cross-city trips and local access between neighbourhoods.

The Najafgarh Drain Corridor Project has already been cleared by the technical committee and the Flood Control Board. Next comes formal administrative approval by March 2026, followed by tendering in April 2026, with physical construction targeted to start in May 2026.

The road network under the Najafgarh Drain Corridor Project will stretch 60.77 kilometres in total. From Jhatikra bridge to Chhawla bridge, a 5.94 kilometre section will run on the left bank. Between Chhawla and Basaidarapur, both banks will get roads, together measuring 54.83 kilometres.

Najafgarh Drain Corridor Project and Rural-Urban Link Delhi

Planners say the Najafgarh Drain Corridor Project is designed as a major connector across Delhi’s west. The corridor will tie into Outer Ring Road, Inner Ring Road, Shivaji Marg, Pankha Road, Najafgarh Road and UER-2, which links further to NH-9 Rohtak Road.

Key junctions under the Najafgarh Drain Corridor Project include Inner Ring Road at Basaidarapur and Outer Ring Road at Keshopur. Additional links will join Pankha Road near Vikaspuri, Najafgarh Road at Kakrola, and UER-2 near Dhoolsiras for access to the airport and Dwarka Expressway.

Najafgarh Drain Corridor Project and Green Transport Corridor

The Najafgarh Drain Corridor Project is also framed as a rural-urban connector from Dhansa to Basaidarapur. Beneficiary areas include Uttam Nagar, Vikaspuri, Najafgarh, Bijwasan, Chhawla, Goyla Dairy, Dwarka, Baprola, Nilothi, Paschim Vihar, Rajouri Garden and the IGI Airport zone.

Connectivity to Gurugram is part of the Najafgarh Drain Corridor Project design. The corridor is expected to strengthen links to sectors 104 and 110 in Gurugram. Villages near the Dwarka Expressway such as Galibpur, Rawta Mor, Daulatpur, Jhuljhuli, Sarangpur and Dhansa will gain faster access.

More villages under the Najafgarh Drain Corridor Project catchment include Ghummanhera, Shikarpur, Jhatikra, Kanganheri and Chhawla. For these settlements, officials project shorter trips to city markets, health facilities, jobs and the airport, compared with current indirect and congested routes.

According to project documents for the Najafgarh Drain Corridor Project, the carriageway will be a 7 metre wide paved road. Separate tracks for pedestrians and cyclists will run alongside. A new bridge is planned near the Dwarka Metro yard to smooth traffic across the drain.

Engineers working on the Najafgarh Drain Corridor Project also plan streetscape upgrades. These include tree planting, new boundary walls, repair of damaged structures, street lighting, signboards and an integrated drainage system. The aim is to avoid waterlogging along the corridor during monsoon months.

Najafgarh Drain Corridor Project and Project Timeline 2026-27

Irrigation and Flood Control Department Minister Pravesh Sahib Singh attended the finance expenditure committee meeting on the Najafgarh Drain Corridor Project. Officials emphasised that administrative clearances must stick to schedule if the November 2027 completion target is to be met.

Chief Minister Rekha Gupta said, “This project will move Delhi towards a sustainable, green and well-organised transport system.” Rekha Gupta further stated, “If the plan is completed on time, the Najafgarh Drain corridor could prove to be a game changer for the capital.”

The Najafgarh Drain Corridor Project is therefore positioned as both a traffic solution and an urban design upgrade. If deadlines hold, Delhi could see a continuous, greener route linking villages, residential colonies, arterial roads and the airport corridor by late 2027.
