At the time of his death, he was 66 years old and had served as Deputy Chief Minister of Maharashtra six times in different governments. He worked in the cabinets led by Prithviraj Chavan, Devendra Fadnavis, Uddhav Thackeray and Eknath Shinde.
He is survived by his wife Sunetra Pawar and his two sons, Jay and Parth Pawar.
