Mumbai Metro Line 5: Titagarh Rail Systems Wins ₹2,481-Crore Deal To Supply 132 Metro Coaches

Titagarh Rail Systems Limited (TRSL) has bagged a prestigious ₹2,481-crore contract from the Mumbai Metropolitan Region Development Authority (MMRDA) for the development of the Mumbai Metro Line 5 project. This major contract covers the design, manufacture, supply, installation, integration, testing, and commissioning of 132 metro coaches, along with advanced signalling and train control (CBTC), telecommunication systems, platform screen doors, depot machinery, and plant equipment.

Project Scope: Mumbai Metro Line 5

The new project covers both Phase 1 (Kapur Bawdi-Kasheli-Dhamankar Naka) and Phase 2 (Dhamankar Naka-Bhiwandi-Kalyan APMC) of the 24.9-kilometre Mumbai Metro Line 5 corridor, a critical link in the expanding metro network of the Mumbai Metropolitan Region. The fully integrated metro line aims to boost urban connectivity and reduce road congestion across Thane, Bhiwandi, and Kalyan.

Indigenous Manufacturing at Uttarpara Facility

All 132 metro coaches will be manufactured at Titagarh's advanced facility in Uttarpara, near Kolkata, reinforcing the government's 'Make in India' initiative and promoting self-reliance in domestic metro rail manufacturing.

Advanced Metro Systems and Technology

Under the contract, TRSL will also provide signalling and telecommunication systems for 16 metro stations, along with automated platform screen doors for enhanced passenger safety. The project includes five years of comprehensive maintenance services post-commissioning, ensuring operational efficiency and reliability.

Second Major Mumbai Metro Contract for TRSL

This is TRSL's second major project for the Mumbai Metro, following its earlier contract for Metro Line 6, further strengthening its presence in India's urban transport infrastructure sector.

Once operational, the Mumbai Metro Line 5 will significantly improve connectivity between Thane, Bhiwandi, and Kalyan, serving thousands of daily commuters and integrating seamlessly with other metro lines across the city.
