Maharashtra Holiday List 2026: A Total of 24 Holidays In The Year

The Government of Maharashtra has officially notified the list of public holidays for the calendar year 2026. The notification, issued under Section 25 of the Negotiable Instruments Act, 1881, mandates a total of 24 public holidays to be observed across state government offices, institutions, and specified establishments.

The comprehensive list incorporates national, state, and religious festivals, reflecting the cultural diversity of Maharashtra. The year begins with the observance of Republic Day on Monday, January 26. The calendar provides several extended breaks, including Ganesh Chaturthi on Monday, September 14, Mahatma Gandhi Jayanti on Friday, October 2, and Christmas on Friday, December 25.

A significant convergence of holidays occurs on Friday, May 1, 2026, with both Maharashtra Din and Buddha Purnima being observed on the same day. Furthermore, Independence Day and Parsi New Year (Shahenshahi) coincide on Saturday, August 15.

Key traditional festivals feature prominently in the schedule. Gudhi Padwa, marking the Marathi New Year, falls on Thursday, March 19. The festive period includes Holi on March 3, Diwali Amavasya on Sunday, November 8, and Diwali (Bali Pratipada) on Tuesday, November 10.
