Abu Dhabi confirmed debris from a successfully intercepted ballistic missile fell in Al Shawamekh early Monday, causing a minor injury to an Indian national amidst escalating regional conflict.

Abu Dhabi Confirms Injury After Successful Missile Interception

The Abu Dhabi Media Office confirmed the development in an update posted on X, saying authorities responded swiftly after debris fell in a residential area.

"Relevant authorities in Abu Dhabi have responded to an incident involving debris falling in the Al Shawamekh area following the successful interception of a ballistic missile by air defence systems. The incident resulted in a minor injury to an Indian national."

The office also urged residents to rely only on verified updates as tensions remain high across the region.

"The public is reminded to obtain information from official sources only and avoid spreading rumours or unverified information."

The latest incident highlights the growing risks faced by foreign nationals living and working in Gulf countries as the conflict widens.

Indians Among Those Affected Across Gulf Nations

Dozens of Indians, including workers and seafarers, have been impacted in attacks across Gulf nations such as Saudi Arabia, the UAE, Oman and Iraq since the conflict began.

So far, six Indians have lost their lives in the ongoing Middle East crisis. Saudi Arabia reported its first Indian casualty last week. Before that, two Indians were killed in an attack on an industrial area in Oman, while three Indian seafarers died in attacks on merchant vessels during the early days of the conflict.

During recent inter-ministerial briefings, the Centre has maintained that the safety and security of nearly 10 million Indian nationals living in war-hit West Asian countries remains a key focus area.

UAE Says It Has Intercepted Hundreds Of Missiles And Drones

On Sunday, the UAE's Ministry of Defence said its air defence systems intercepted 25 unmanned aerial vehicles (UAVs) and four ballistic missiles.

The ministry further said that since the start of what it described as Iranian "aggression" following the joint US-Israeli strikes on Iran, the UAE has dealt with a massive number of aerial threats. According to the ministry, air defences have so far intercepted 1,773 UAVs, 15 cruise missiles and 345 ballistic missiles.

The numbers underline the scale of the security challenge facing the Gulf nation as regional hostilities continue to deepen.

UAE Envoy Reassures India Over Safety Of Four Million Indians

Amid growing concern over the welfare of Indian nationals in the UAE, the country's ambassador to India, Abdulnasser Alshaali, said on Saturday that protecting Indians living in the Gulf nation remains a top priority.

"The safety of Indian nationals in the UAE is a priority. They are protected and are treated as family, including the 200 nationalities living in the country in peace and harmony," Alshaali told news agency PTI.

He also stressed that the nearly four million Indians living in the UAE should not be viewed merely as a number.

"They are not a statistic."

Expanding on that point, the envoy offered a more personal reflection on the Indian community's contribution to the UAE.

"They are the son from Kerala sending money home each month so his mother can pay her medical bills, the engineer from Hyderabad building infrastructure that will stand for a century, the teacher from Tamil Nadu shaping the futures of Emirati children," he added.

Alshaali further said the UAE leadership considers the safety of Indians living in the country a direct responsibility.

He said their security is a "personal responsibility" that the UAE's leadership carries every day.

"What I would say to Indian families is this: the UAE's commitment to protecting the people who have built their lives here is absolute," the envoy said.

India-UAE Ties In Focus During Regional Crisis

The UAE envoy also appreciated India's decision to co-sponsor a UN resolution condemning Iran's attacks on Gulf countries, calling it a principled move by a nation the UAE sees as a strategic partner and close friend.

Alshaali said the UAE would remember that India was among the countries "who stood with us first."

As the conflict continues to intensify, the latest injury in Abu Dhabi has once again brought the spotlight on the vulnerability of expatriate communities in the Gulf, especially the large Indian diaspora spread across the region.
