PM Modi, Netanyahu Hold Joint Press Meet; India, Israel Sign Key MoUs To Boost Strategic Ties

Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Thursday held comprehensive bilateral discussions with Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, signalling a renewed push to deepen India-Israel relations. The leaders reviewed cooperation across defence, trade, technology and agriculture, while also assessing regional developments in West Asia.

Focus on Defence and Security Cooperation

During the talks, both sides placed significant emphasis on defence and security collaboration, an area that has become a cornerstone of India-Israel relations over the past decade. Officials indicated that the discussions explored strengthening intelligence sharing, counter-terror cooperation and defence manufacturing partnerships.

India and Israel have steadily expanded joint defence initiatives, and the meeting reaffirmed their intention to advance existing projects and identify new opportunities for collaboration. The dialogue also covered cyber security and emerging threats, reflecting growing concern over hybrid warfare and digital vulnerabilities.

Following delegation-level meetings, the two countries moved toward formalising cooperation through multiple agreements. According to the Israeli Prime Minister's official account, several memorandums of understanding spanning economic, security and diplomatic engagement were expected to be signed in the presence of both leaders.

Economic Corridor and I2U2 Framework

A major agenda item was the proposed India-Middle East-Europe Economic Corridor (IMEC), which aims to create a trade and connectivity route linking India with Europe through the Middle East. Both countries discussed implementation mechanisms, infrastructure cooperation and investment participation.

The leaders also reviewed progress under the I2U2 grouping, comprising India, Israel, the United Arab Emirates and the United States. The initiative focuses on economic cooperation in areas such as food security, clean energy, technology and logistics. Officials said the framework is increasingly viewed as a practical platform for joint projects with regional and global impact.

Trade, Technology and Agriculture Partnerships

Trade expansion and technological collaboration formed another important part of the meeting. The two sides explored partnerships in innovation, start-up ecosystems and advanced research sectors, including artificial intelligence, water management and precision agriculture.

Agriculture cooperation, a long-standing pillar of bilateral ties, was also discussed. Israeli expertise in irrigation, water conservation and desert farming continues to support Indian agricultural productivity, particularly in arid regions. The leaders reviewed ongoing agricultural centres of excellence operating in multiple Indian states.

Economic engagement is expected to be reinforced through new agreements that encourage investment, joint ventures and technology transfer between companies from both countries.

Discussion on West Asia Situation

Apart from bilateral matters, the leaders deliberated on the prevailing situation in the Middle East. The conversation addressed regional stability, security concerns and the broader geopolitical environment affecting trade routes and energy markets.

The joint press interaction following the talks highlighted the intention of both governments to maintain close diplomatic coordination. Officials described the meeting as part of a broader effort to align strategic priorities while strengthening economic and technological cooperation.
