PM Modi Greets Iran President On Eid, Nowruz, Condemns Infrastructure Attacks In West Asia

Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Saturday spoke with Iran's President Dr. Masoud Pezeshkian, extending greetings on the occasions of Eid and Nowruz while voicing hope that the festive season would usher in peace, stability and prosperity across West Asia.

The conversation also focused on rising regional concerns, with PM Modi strongly condemning attacks on critical infrastructure and warning that such incidents could deepen instability in the region while also affecting global trade and supply chains.

PM Modi Extends Eid And Nowruz Greetings

In his message after the call, PM Modi said he had conveyed his greetings to the Iranian President on the twin occasions of Eid and Nowruz, underlining India's hopes for calm and prosperity in the region.

"Spoke with President Dr. Masoud Pezeshkian and conveyed Eid and Nowruz greetings. We expressed hope that this festive season brings peace, stability and prosperity to West Asia. Condemned attacks on critical infrastructure in the region, which threaten regional stability and disrupt global supply chains," he wrote on X.

During the discussion, the prime minister raised concern over attacks targeting critical infrastructure in West Asia, describing them as a serious threat to regional stability.

He noted that such attacks do not only affect countries in the immediate region but can also have wider consequences by disrupting global supply chains, especially at a time when geopolitical tensions continue to keep international markets on edge.

Focus On Shipping Lanes And Navigation Security

PM Modi also reiterated the importance of keeping major maritime routes safe and operational, stressing that freedom of navigation remains essential for regional and global economic stability.

He said that secure and open shipping lanes were vital, particularly in a region that plays a key role in global energy flows and international trade movement.

"Reiterated the importance of safeguarding freedom of navigation and ensuring that shipping lanes remain open and secure. Appreciated Iran's continued support for the safety and security of Indian nationals in Iran," added the prime minister.

Apart from strategic and regional issues, PM Modi also acknowledged Iran's continued cooperation in ensuring the safety and security of Indian nationals residing in the country.
