Mojtaba Khamenei’s Tough Message: Iran Will Not Ease Pressure on US, Israel

Mojtaba Khamenei has taken a hardline position on the escalating conflict, rejecting proposals aimed at easing tensions with the United States and Israel, and instead signalling that Iran will continue its confrontational path.

According to officials familiar with internal discussions, proposals for a ceasefire and broader de-escalation were conveyed to Tehran through intermediary countries. However, during a recent high-level foreign policy meeting, Khamenei dismissed these suggestions, adopting what was described as a "very tough and serious" stance.

Sources indicated that the Supreme Leader made it clear Iran should not reduce pressure on its adversaries. Instead, he emphasised that Tehran must aim to counter and ultimately defeat both Washington and Tel Aviv across multiple fronts, reinforcing a strategy of sustained resistance rather than negotiation.

Hardline Policy Overshadows Diplomatic Efforts

Khamenei's position appears to have stalled any immediate prospects for dialogue. The proposals reportedly included options ranging from limited de-escalation to a potential ceasefire, but none gained traction within Iran's leadership.

It remains unclear whether Khamenei attended the meeting in person or participated remotely. However, officials described his intervention as decisive, shaping Iran's current foreign policy direction at a critical moment.

Israeli Strikes Add to Escalation

The hardening of Iran's stance comes alongside fresh claims from Israel about targeted military operations. The Israel Defense Forces said it carried out strikes that killed Gholam Reza Soleimani, head of the Basij force within Iran's Revolutionary Guards.

Israeli Defence Minister Israel Katz also claimed that senior figure Ali Larijani was targeted in a separate operation. Iran has not confirmed these claims. A handwritten message later shared from Larijani's account-mourning sailors killed in a US strike-added ambiguity to the situation.

Conflict Expands to Gulf Region

As tensions rise, the conflict is spilling into the Gulf. Iranian-linked strikes have reportedly hit energy infrastructure, including an oil facility in Fujairah, raising concerns over the safety of key oil routes.

Khamenei's rejection of diplomacy underscores a broader shift: Iran is preparing for prolonged confrontation rather than compromise.
