Imran Khan Eye Treatment: Former Pakistan PM May Undergo MRI, CT Scans During Al Shifa Hospital Visit

Former Pakistan Prime Minister Imran Khan is expected to be moved from Adiala jail to Al-Shifa Eye Trust between 21 February and 26 February for further treatment of his eye condition, according to sources.

Officials said a final decision will depend on medical advice. However, preparations are reportedly underway for another Eylea injection, a treatment commonly used for retinal swelling and age related macular degeneration. Authorities may also permit limited meetings with close aides and his wife Bushra Bibi during the hospital stay.

The possible transfer has intensified debate over Khan's health. His party, Pakistan Tehreek e Insaf, and family members have accused the government of ignoring serious eye problems while he remains in custody. Authorities have rejected the allegations, stating that treatment decisions are based solely on doctors' recommendations.

Court documents submitted to the Supreme Court indicate that Khan first complained of blurred vision in November 2025. Reports suggest he was given standard eye drops for nearly three months before specialists prescribed Eylea. One medical assessment cited by his supporters warned of up to 85 per cent vision loss in one eye and described the delay as institutional medical neglect.

Government medical boards, however, have reported some improvement in his eyesight and described his condition as stable but requiring specialised care.

Beyond the scheduled eye injection, officials say a broader health assessment may take place during or around the hospital visit. Planned tests reportedly include MRI and CT scans, X rays, cardiac examinations and detailed blood work.

Authorities say the purpose is to document Khan's overall health and address criticism regarding prison medical arrangements.

Previous official updates also confirmed that Khan has been allowed to speak with his sons by phone, a facility acknowledged by a federal minister amid continuing political tensions.

On 18 February, Khan's sisters Dr Uzma Khan and Aleema Khan addressed a press conference, alleging a conspiracy to harm the jailed leader. They named army chief Asim Munir and interior minister Mohsin Naqvi in their accusations.

Aleema Khan claimed her brother's eyesight was worsening inside Adiala jail and alleged that access to his personal doctors had been blocked. She insisted that only Khan's chosen specialists should oversee his treatment and rejected findings of government appointed medical boards.

Officials have dismissed these allegations and maintain that regular medical evaluations are being conducted in accordance with legal procedures.

The timing and duration of any admission to Al Shifa Eye Trust Hospital remain unclear. Officials say prison authorities and medical teams will jointly review Khan's condition after the next Eylea dose and related examinations.

Any relaxation of restrictions, including meetings with family members, will depend on medical recommendations, they added.
