One person has been reported dead and 32 others injured in Kuwait, the health ministry said on Sunday, after Iran launched retaliatory attacks. Sirens sounded across Kuwait City as residents were warned of incoming missiles and drones linked to the regional escalation.

The current wave of Iranian strikes began on Saturday across the oil-rich Gulf region, targeting several locations. Kuwait's interior ministry said it intercepted an unspecified number of drones at dawn, describing the small Gulf state as a target in the latest barrage.

On Monday, an AFP correspondent saw black smoke rising from the US embassy in Kuwait City following the newest Iranian strikes. The embassy did not confirm any hit but issued a security alert that warned people away. "There is a continuing threat of missile and UAV attacks over Kuwait. Do not come to the embassy," the statement said.

The attacks in Kuwait are part of Iran's response after US-Israeli strikes killed its supreme leader, according to officials. While interception efforts were reported, the casualty figures underline the risk to civilians in the country, which hosts key foreign diplomatic and military sites.
