Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Friday chaired a virtual meeting with several Chief Ministers to discuss the impact of the ongoing West Asia conflict on India. The meeting focused on preparedness, coordination with states, and ensuring that essential supplies remain stable amid rising global tensions.

Senior Union ministers and multiple state leaders joined the discussion, highlighting the seriousness of the situation.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi has called on states to work together in a coordinated manner to deal with the challenges arising from the ongoing West Asia conflict. Drawing a comparison with India's response during the COVID-19 pandemic, he expressed confidence that a united "Team India" approach would help the country overcome the current situation.

The remarks were made during a virtual meeting with Chief Ministers and Lieutenant Governors, where preparedness and response strategies were reviewed.

Focus on Unity and Collective Action

During the meeting, the Prime Minister stressed that cooperation between the Centre and states is essential in times of global uncertainty. He appreciated the suggestions shared by Chief Ministers and said their inputs would play a key role in shaping the government's response.

He emphasised that vigilance, preparedness, and timely action are necessary as the situation continues to evolve.

Key Priorities for the Government

Referring to the impact of the West Asia crisis, PM Modi outlined the government's main priorities. These include maintaining economic stability, ensuring uninterrupted energy supply, protecting citizens, and strengthening trade and supply chains.

He noted that India has handled similar global disruptions in the past and has the experience to manage current challenges effectively.

Lessons from the COVID-19 Pandemic

The Prime Minister recalled how India successfully managed the COVID-19 crisis through close coordination between the Centre and states. He said that the same model of cooperation-referred to as "Team India"-remains the country's biggest strength.
He urged all stakeholders to adopt a similar approach to minimise the impact of the current crisis on daily life and the economy.

Importance of Centre-State Coordination

Highlighting the role of states, PM Modi said that implementation of policies happens at the ground level, making state governments crucial in managing the situation.
He called for constant communication between the Centre and states, timely sharing of information, and joint decision-making to ensure quick and effective responses.

The Prime Minister directed states to ensure that supply chains remain uninterrupted. He warned against hoarding and profiteering and asked authorities to take strict action against such practices.

He also suggested setting up control rooms at state and district levels to monitor the situation closely. Special attention was advised for the agriculture sector, particularly in ensuring proper storage and distribution of fertilisers ahead of the Kharif season.

Warning Against Misinformation

PM Modi cautioned against the spread of rumours and misinformation, saying it could create unnecessary panic among citizens. He stressed the importance of providing accurate and timely information.

He also warned about the risk of online fraud and fake agents exploiting the situation, urging authorities to remain alert.

Support for Citizens and Diaspora

The Prime Minister highlighted the need to maintain public confidence by assuring citizens that essential commodities will remain available.

He also advised states with citizens living in West Asia to set up helplines, appoint nodal officers, and create support systems to assist families and ensure smooth communication.

Economic Stability and Industry Support

PM Modi noted that India's efforts in recent years to strengthen its economy and supply systems are proving helpful in the current situation. He called for continued engagement with industries and MSMEs to address their concerns and maintain production and employment.

Regular monitoring at both state and district levels was also emphasised to respond quickly to any changes.

Long-Term Preparedness and Energy Focus

Along with immediate measures, the Prime Minister stressed the need for long-term planning. He encouraged states to promote alternative energy sources such as solar power, biofuels, electric mobility, and initiatives like GOBARdhan.

He also highlighted the importance of increasing domestic exploration of oil and natural gas with support from states.

Participation and Key Leaders

The meeting was attended by several Chief Ministers and Union ministers, including Defence Minister Rajnath Singh. Leaders appreciated the Centre's efforts and highlighted the importance of continued coordination.

However, Chief Ministers from poll-bound states did not attend due to the enforcement of the Model Code of Conduct ahead of upcoming elections.
