SIR Update: Over 2.89 Crore Names Deleted From UP Voter List, Final List To Be Out On THIS Date

The Election Commission of India has released the draft voter list for Uttar Pradesh as part of its ongoing Summary Intensive Revision (SIR) process. According to the data shared by Chief Electoral Officer (CEO) Navdeep Rinwa, more than 2.89 crore names have been removed from the voter list across the state.

Out of these, 2.17 crore voters have been permanently shifted to other places, while 46.23 lakh voters have passed away. Additionally, around 25.47 lakh names were found to be either duplicated or missing from the records.

The draft electoral roll was originally scheduled to be published on December 31, but due to administrative updates, it has now been made public this week.

Claims and Objections Period Announced

CEO Navdeep Rinwa also announced that citizens will have the chance to review and correct any errors in the draft voter list. The period for submitting claims and objections will run from January 6 to February 6, 2026. During this time, voters can request corrections, add new names, or report any issues related to their voter information.

Once the claims and objections are reviewed, the notice phase will continue from January 6 to February 27, 2026, during which all applications will be verified and decisions made. The final voter list for Uttar Pradesh will be published on March 6, 2026.

CEO Rinwa also mentioned that all the enumeration forms collected during the verification drive have been digitised to ensure accuracy and transparency in the voter data.

Ensuring a Clean and Updated Voter Database

The large-scale cleanup of the voter list is part of the Election Commission's effort to maintain an accurate and updated electoral roll before upcoming elections. Officials said that the removal of duplicate, deceased, and shifted voters helps ensure fair and transparent voting in the state.

The revised list will now be made available for public inspection, allowing eligible citizens to confirm their details or register as new voters before the final publication.

The Summary Intensive Revision (SIR) is a regular exercise carried out by the Election Commission to update and verify voter lists across states. During this process, officials review existing records, remove duplicate or outdated entries, and add names of new eligible voters. The aim is to ensure that the electoral rolls remain accurate, transparent, and free from errors before any election.
