Punjab Police Arrest Parents of Gangster Goldy Brar in 2024 Extortion Case

In Muktsar, Punjab, police have arrested Shamsher Singh and Preetpal Kaur, parents of gangster Goldy Brar, in a 2024 extortion case. This action is part of a broader crackdown on gang-related activities in the region.

The parents of Goldy Brar, a gangster based abroad, have been detained in connection with an extortion case from 2024 in Punjab's Muktsar district. Senior police official Abhimanyu Rana confirmed the arrest of Brar's father, Shamsher Singh, and mother, Preetpal Kaur. The family owns a residence in Adesh Nagar, Muktsar, although they originally come from Faridkot district.

Goldy Brar is currently believed to be residing in the United States. He initially moved to Canada on a student visa in 2017. Previously affiliated with the Lawrence Bishnoi gang, he separated from them last year. He is now associated with the Brar-Rohit Godara-Kala Jatheri gang.

Punjab Police Crackdown on Gangsters

The Punjab Police's action against Brar's parents is part of a broader crackdown on gangsters within the state. Authorities have identified and mapped locations connected to 1,200 associates of 60 foreign-based gangsters and their 600 family members allegedly involved in criminal activities.

In 2024, Goldy Brar was designated as a terrorist by the government under anti-terror laws. This designation was due to his involvement in smuggling high-grade arms, ammunition, and explosives via drones across borders for carrying out killings in India.

Connection to Sidhu Moosewala's Murder

Goldy Brar is one of the primary suspects in the murder of Punjabi singer Sidhu Moosewala in 2022. Brar had previously claimed responsibility for Moosewala's murder. The FIR related to the extortion case was filed by a Muktsar resident in 2024.

The ongoing police operations aim to dismantle networks linked to these gangsters. By targeting family members and associates, authorities hope to curb criminal activities and bring those responsible to justice.

This recent development highlights the challenges faced by law enforcement in tackling organised crime with international connections. The arrest of Brar's parents marks a significant step in the ongoing efforts to address these issues.
