PM Modi Congratulates Tarique Rahman on BNP’s Bangladesh Election Victory

Prime Minister Narendra Modi has congratulated Bangladesh National Party chairperson Tarique Rahman for leading the party to a clear win in the Bangladesh Parliamentary elections held in 2026. Modi’s message underlined political trust, democratic values and future cooperation between India and Bangladesh.

In a post on X on 13 February 2026, Narendra Modi addressed Tarique Rahman directly. Modi wrote, "I convey my warm congratulations to Mr. Tarique Rahman on leading BNP to a decisive victory in the Parliamentary elections in Bangladesh." The message highlighted New Delhi’s formal response to the poll outcome.

Modi’s post stressed public support for the Bangladesh National Party leadership after the vote. Modi stated, "This victory shows the trust of the people of Bangladesh in your leadership." The comment pointed to BNP’s mandate and the scale of its Parliamentary success in Bangladesh.

The Prime Minister used the same message to restate India’s policy priorities towards Dhaka. Modi said, "India will continue to stand in support of a democratic, progressive and inclusive Bangladesh. I look forward to working with you to strengthen our multifaceted relations and advance our common development goals."

The statement followed BNP’s own declaration of victory in the Parliamentary elections. A senior Bangladesh National Party official told AFP that the party had secured success in the first national polls since the deadly 2024 uprising, which had deeply shaken Bangladesh’s political landscape.
