Operation Sindoor Takes Spotlight On Republic Day 2026 Parade With Tanks, Missiles And Air-Land Power

India marked its 77th Republic Day with a strong display of military coordination and aerial power at Kartavya Path, as Operation Sindoor emerged as a central theme of the 2026 celebrations.

This year's parade was the first Republic Day held after the high-profile military action, and it reflected a renewed emphasis on joint operations, modern warfare systems and national security preparedness.

Prahar formation highlights tri-services aerial strength

One of the early highlights of the parade was the Prahar formation, which featured a Dhruv Advanced Light Helicopter carrying the Indian Army's Operation Sindoor flag. The formation was accompanied by the Army's Rudra ALH-WSI and the Indian Air Force's ALH Mark IV, showcasing close coordination between the services during complex aerial operations.

The display underlined the role of indigenous aviation platforms in frontline missions, with the Dhruv and Rudra helicopters symbolising mobility, surveillance and strike capability in challenging operational environments.

'Dhwaj Formation' delivers a stirring aerial spectacle

As the parade got underway, spectators witnessed the dramatic 'Dhwaj Formation' in the skies above Kartavya Path. Flying in an inverted 'Y' pattern, four Mi-17 1V helicopters from the 129 Helicopter Unit carried the National Ensign along with the Service Ensigns of the Indian Army, Indian Navy and Indian Air Force.

The formation drew loud applause from the audience, reinforcing the message of unity and seamless coordination among the three services during national ceremonies and operational deployments alike.

Heavy armour and missile systems on display

On the ground, the parade featured an impressive line-up of modern combat platforms. The NAG missile system and an infantry combat vehicle were displayed, highlighting India's growing focus on precision strike and battlefield mobility. The Bhishma and Arjun battle tanks also rolled down Kartavya Path, adding to the visual impact of the military showcase.

Apache and Dhruv helicopters flying overhead complemented the ground displays, offering a comprehensive view of India's air-land combat capabilities.

'Operation Sindoor: Victory Through Jointness' tableau

A key centrepiece of the military segment was the tri-services tableau titled "Operation Sindoor: Victory Through Jointness". Presented by the Indian Armed Forces, the tableau reflected strength, unity and the protection of national sovereignty through updated defence capabilities and coordinated action.

Operation Sindoor was launched to target terrorist bases in Pakistan following the Pahalgam terrorist attack in April 2025, in which 26 people were killed. In response, Indian military strikes destroyed multiple terror bases and neutralised several terrorists. The tableau served as a reminder of that operation and its emphasis on joint planning and execution across the services.

As India commemorated the adoption of its Constitution, the Republic Day 2026 parade blended tradition with modern military resolve, placing Operation Sindoor at the heart of a powerful national message.
