Noida Traffic Jam Alert: Kilometres-Long Jam Hits DND, NH-9 And Sector 62 Amid Factory Workers’ Protest
Noida witnessed a chaotic Monday morning as thousands of commuters were left stranded in massive traffic snarls across several major routes after factory workers staged protests in parts of the city, demanding higher wages and raising other issues. The agitation quickly spilled over into peak office-hour traffic, leading to kilometre-long queues, bumper-to-bumper movement and severe delays on roads connecting Noida and Delhi.

Many commuters reported being stuck for more than an hour, with some saying it took over an hour to cross the Film City-Mayamaya stretch, a distance of less than four kilometres. The disruption hit office-goers particularly hard, with heavy congestion reported in Sector 62, Noida Phase 2 and along the DND Flyway.
Protest in Noida Phase 2 Chokes Key Arterial Roads
The protest reportedly began early in Noida Phase 2 and soon affected traffic movement on some of the city's most crucial roads. Major arterial links between Delhi and Noida, including National Highway 9 and the DND Flyway, saw severe congestion as demonstrators blocked sections of the road during busy morning hours.
As traffic piled up, long lines of vehicles were seen crawling through affected stretches, while many office-goers took to social media to flag the worsening situation and demand immediate intervention from authorities.
Office-Goers Face Long Delays Across Sector 62, DND Flyway
The impact of the protest was felt across multiple high-traffic zones in Noida, especially in Sector 62, Phase 2 and the DND corridor, all of which are heavily used by daily commuters travelling between Delhi, Noida and Ghaziabad.
The Film City-Mayamaya stretch emerged as one of the worst-hit pockets, with several commuters claiming that a short journey of under four kilometres turned into an hour-long ordeal. Bumper-to-bumper traffic and slow movement were reported throughout the morning as the protest coincided with office rush hour, worsening the bottleneck.
Several social media users also urged fellow commuters to avoid the affected routes and opt for alternative roads or diversions, as the gridlock showed little sign of easing quickly during the morning.
Police Deploy Personnel, Diversions Put in Place
Traffic police said personnel were rushed to the affected areas and diversions were introduced in an effort to manage the heavy congestion and restore normal movement. Both Delhi Police and Noida Police were reportedly involved in handling the situation, especially in areas close to the Delhi-Noida border where traffic pressure remained high.
According to a police source quoted by PTI, members of a labour union from Uttar Pradesh had gathered near the border area, blocking parts of the road and significantly slowing the movement of vehicles.
"Personnel from the Delhi Police and Noida Police were deployed to manage the situation and divert traffic, but the heavy volume of vehicles compounded the chaos," the source said.
Despite these measures, the sheer volume of vehicles on the road and the timing of the protest during peak commuting hours added to the disruption, leaving many stranded for prolonged periods.
Violence Allegations and Ambedkar Jayanti Link Remain Under Watch
Authorities said the situation intensified after some protesters allegedly vandalised vehicles and property during a confrontation with police. Officials also said stones were pelted in parts of the protest zone, and a car was reportedly set on fire, further escalating tensions on the ground.
While the primary trigger for the disruption appeared to be the workers' protest over wages and related demands, some social media users also suggested that preparations at Dalit Memorial ahead of Ambedkar Jayanti on April 14 may have contributed to the congestion in certain pockets. However, there has been no official confirmation linking the traffic chaos to those preparations.
For now, the Monday gridlock has once again highlighted how quickly protests on key commuter corridors can bring movement in Noida and Delhi-NCR to a near standstill, especially during office hours. With traffic pressure expected to remain sensitive around major routes, commuters are likely to keep a close watch on police advisories and diversions through the day.
