Nine Years After Crime, Court Awards Life Term to All Convicts in Bulandshahr NH-91 Gang Rape Case

All five convicts in the Bulandshahr NH-91 gang rape case receive life imprisonment, nearly nine years after the crime. A local court delivers the sentence on December 22, 2025. The case concerns a family attack on National Highway-91 in 2016, which triggered strong outrage across Uttar Pradesh and drew national attention.

After the judgement, Additional District Government Counsel Varun Kaushik says the ruling sends a clear warning. "...All five convicts have been sentenced to life imprisonment by the court today, and the court has also sent a message that such criminals should be kept away from society…" Kaushik adds that the court order reflects the gravity of the offences proved.

Bulandshahr 2016 gang rape case verdict and key evidence

Investigators rely heavily on scientific support to build the case. Kaushik explains that DNA findings become central during the trial phase. "The most crucial evidence in this case was that the DNA of one of the criminals was found on the victim's mother's clothes," Kaushik said. This forensic match strengthens the prosecution timeline and links one accused directly to the assault.

According to Kaushik, the incident dates back to 2016 on the Dostpur stretch of National Highway-91 in Bulandshahr Kotwali Dehat. A family is travelling by car when the attackers block the road using an iron rod. The vehicle is halted near Dostpur village, and the family is then forced into nearby fields along with the car.

There, the assailants gang-rape the mother and daughter, while other relatives remain restrained and unable to intervene. Kaushik recalls, "...In 2016, a rape and robbery incident took place on the Dostpur highway… The perpetrators committed the heinous act of gang-raping the mother and daughter," he said. The family had been travelling from Noida to Shahjahanpur when the attack occurs.

A chargesheet is filed against six accused after the investigation. During the court process, however, one of them dies in jail in 2019. "A charge sheet was filed against six criminals, one of whom died in jail during the trial in 2019," Kaushik added. The remaining five stand trial and eventually receive life terms from the Bulandshahr court.

The Bulandshahr 2016 gang rape case now reaches its legal conclusion with the sentencing of five convicts. The judgement, anchored in forensic proof and survivor testimony, closes a long trial that began after the July 29, 2016 attack, while also underlining judicial recognition of the seriousness of highway crimes against travellers.
