The seizure comes amid heightened vigilance across northern India following recent blast incidents and intelligence inputs.
Police Intercept Vehicle After Tip-Off
Acting on specific intelligence about explosives being transported from Bundi to Tonk, police set up a blockade and stopped a suspected Maruti Ciaz car. Upon inspection, officers recovered nearly 150 kg of ammonium nitrate concealed in bags of urea fertiliser.
In addition to the chemical explosive, the vehicle was found carrying around 200 explosive cartridges and six bundles of safety fuse wire measuring roughly 1,100 metres in total.
Two Accused Arrested, Investigation Underway
Two men, identified as Surendra Mochi and Surendra Patwa, were arrested from the spot and are currently being questioned by investigators. Police officials said the operation prevented a potentially serious incident during the New Year period.
"A major operation was conducted in which explosives were seized from a vehicle. Two accused have been arrested and the investigation is being carried out. We are probing all aspects in the case," said Mrityunjay Mishra, Deputy Superintendent of Police.
Seizure Comes Amid Recent Blast and Wider Explosive Hauls
Ammonium nitrate, a white crystalline chemical commonly used as a fertiliser, has also been linked to recent terror-related incidents. It was reportedly used along with other high-grade explosives in a blast near the Red Fort last month, which claimed 15 lives. Investigators had said the suicide bomber, Umar-un-Nabi, may have improperly assembled the improvised explosive device, leading to the explosion.
The Tonk seizure also follows another alarming discovery earlier in the day, when around 2,900 kg of explosives, including ammonium nitrate, were found just 50 km from the national capital in Faridabad. Authorities are now examining possible links between the recoveries as security agencies remain on high alert.
