Momo Craving Turns Costly: UP Boy Allegedly Hands Over Jewellery to Stall Vendors

In Deoria, Uttar Pradesh, a Class 7 boy’s love for momos has turned into an ₹85 lakh police case, after jewellery from his home allegedly ended up in the hands of three local momo vendors.

Vimlesh Mishra, a temple priest from Varanasi, filed a complaint after discovering that gold ornaments — including pieces belonging to his sister — had gone missing from a cupboard. The family later learned that the boy had given the jewellery to the momo stall operators over time, believing it was the price for his favourite snack.

According to the complaint, the three vendors noticed the boy visiting their stall regularly and offered him free momos to gain his trust. They allegedly told him that the free treats would continue if he brought jewellery from home. Over several visits, the boy quietly handed over ornaments, unaware of their value.

The situation came to light only when Mishra’s sister asked for her jewellery. Upon checking, the cupboard was empty, prompting the family to question the boy. He admitted that all the jewellery had been given to the momo sellers in exchange for momos.

Police have registered a case and launched an investigation. Officers are looking into how the jewellery was removed piece by piece while the boy’s momo habit remained uninterrupted.

What began as a simple love for momos has now become a high-value crime case, showing how a child’s snack cravings in Uttar Pradesh can take an unexpected and costly turn.
