Resignation of West Bengal Governor

As part of the announcement, the President accepted the resignation of Dr. C. V. Ananda Bose, who had been serving as the Governor of West Bengal.

Dr. Bose stepped down before completing his full term, though the official statement did not provide a detailed reason for the resignation. His departure created a vacancy that has now been filled through a new gubernatorial appointment.

RN Ravi Appointed as West Bengal Governor

Following the resignation, R. N. Ravi, who was serving as the Governor of Tamil Nadu, has been appointed as the new Governor of West Bengal.

Ravi is a former Indian Police Service (IPS) officer and has also served as Deputy National Security Adviser in the Government of India. His appointment comes at a politically sensitive time as West Bengal is expected to go to Assembly elections in 2026.

Kerala Governor Given Additional Charge of Tamil Nadu

After Ravi's transfer, Rajendra Vishwanath Arlekar, currently the Governor of Kerala, has been assigned the additional responsibility of Governor of Tamil Nadu until a permanent appointment is made.

This interim arrangement ensures that the constitutional responsibilities of the Governor's office in Tamil Nadu continue without interruption.

New Governors Appointed for Several States

The President also approved the appointment of new Governors in multiple states.

• Shiv Pratap Shukla, who had been serving as Governor of Himachal Pradesh, has now been appointed Governor of Telangana.
• Jishnu Dev Varma, the Governor of Telangana, has been moved to Maharashtra as the new Governor.
• Nand Kishore Yadav has been appointed as the Governor of Nagaland.
• Lieutenant General (Retired) Syed Ata Hasnain, a former senior Indian Army officer, has been appointed as the Governor of Bihar.
• These appointments reflect a broader administrative reshuffle aimed at filling vacancies and reallocating responsibilities across states.

Changes in Himachal Pradesh and Ladakh

In another change, Kavinder Gupta, who had been serving as the Lieutenant Governor of Ladakh, has been appointed as the Governor of Himachal Pradesh.

Meanwhile, Vinai Kumar Saxena, who was the Lieutenant Governor of Delhi, has been appointed as the Lieutenant Governor of Ladakh.

The President has also appointed Taranjit Singh Sandhu as the Lieutenant Governor of Delhi.

Sandhu is a senior diplomat and former Indian ambassador to the United States, known for his experience in international relations and diplomacy.
