Love And Revenge In Andhra Pradesh: 4 Arrested For Allegedly Injecting HIV-Infected Blood Into Ex-Lover’s Wife

Andhra police in Kurnool District arrested 4 individuals - including a woman on Jan 24th, for allegedly injecting blood infected with HIV into a doctor as a result of a personal dispute. Police said the victim of the attack is married to the former boyfriend of the accused woman.

The four people who were arrested and charged have been identified as B. Boya Vasundhara (34) of Kurnool, Konge Jyothi (40), a nurse working in a private hospital in Adoni, and Jyothi's two adult children, both in their twenties.

Conspiracy Linked to Personal Grudge

According to police, Vasundhara was unable to accept that her former lover had married another woman. Investigators said she allegedly planned the attack in an attempt to break the couple apart.

Police said Vasundhara, along with the other accused, conspired to stage a road accident and use the opportunity to inject the doctor with HIV-infected blood. The infected blood samples were reportedly collected from patients undergoing treatment at a government hospital, under the pretext that they were required for research.

Incident Took Place After Staged Accident

The incident occurred on January 9 at around 2.30 pm. The victim, an assistant professor at a private medical college in Kurnool, was returning home on her scooter after work when two people on a motorcycle deliberately rammed into her near KC Canal at Vinayak Ghat.

As the doctor fell and sustained injuries, the accused approached her pretending to offer help. While attempting to put her into an autorickshaw, Vasundhara allegedly injected her with a syringe before fleeing when the victim raised an alarm, police said.

Victim Stable, Police Play Down Infection Risk

Police said the victim received immediate medical care and is currently stable. Doctors have confirmed that her condition is normal.

Officials also stated that the HIV virus cannot survive for several days, even if stored in a refrigerator. They said the main medical concern was the entry of a foreign substance into the body.

"Since the victim herself is a doctor, she was aware of the required tests and medication. Doctors have advised her to return after three weeks for follow-up, considering the mutation period," an official said.

Case Registered Under BNS Sections

The victim's husband, who is also a doctor, lodged a complaint at the Kurnool III Town Police Station on January 10. Based on the complaint, police registered a case under Sections 126(2), 118(1), 272 read with 3(5) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita.
