Just 25 Days to Go: Kerala, Assam and Puducherry Brace for Assembly Polls on April 9

With the election calendar now in motion, Keralam, Assam and Puducherry have entered the final stretch before voting day. The Election Commission of India has scheduled assembly elections in all three regions on April 9, 2026, leaving just 25 days for political parties to make their final push before polling.

Together, the three assemblies account for 296 seats- with Keralam's 140-member assembly, Assam's 126 seats, and the 30-seat assembly in Puducherry. Campaign activity is expected to intensify in the coming weeks as parties roll out rallies, roadshows and grassroots outreach programmes across constituencies.

In Keralam, the contest is likely to revolve around the state's traditional bipolar political framework, while Assam will witness a high-stakes battle shaped by regional and national political dynamics. In Puducherry, alliances and local political equations are expected to play a crucial role in determining the outcome.

Election authorities are simultaneously ramping up preparations to ensure smooth polling. Around 25 lakh officials are expected to be deployed across the five poll-bound states, with extensive security arrangements and monitoring mechanisms in place.

The ECI has also introduced a series of new measures aimed at ensuring transparency and accessibility. These include 100 percent webcasting of polling booths, improved facilities for senior citizens and Persons with Disabilities, and the integration of electoral services under the ECINET mobile application.

With just weeks left before voting begins, the political temperature in Keralam, Assam and Puducherry is steadily rising as parties gear up for a decisive electoral contest.
